Let's talk about some particularity here in Warsaw...

  • The first particular sound heard here in Warsaw is the crows' cry...they are as popular as pigeons!
  • If you walk on the street and cross out of the crossing lines you may be punished with a forfeit of 50 Zloty (about 13€), the same thing happens if you cross with red traffic light.
  • In the metro you can find a lot of people at 5 a.m. yet, on the streets there are people all the time.
  • In some streets there are mans who polish your shoes for few Zlotys.
  • In supermarkets you can find an amazing quantity of sausages, wurstel, and other specialities like these.
  • Wardrobe is a must for every place! Library, pubs, locals, university's offices...
  • Carrefour sales catsuits, probably for the cold temperature (now 5 degrees, and we are still in september!)

Today I am officially a student of the University of Warsaw, I've picked up the student badge at the International Relationship Office, after a little queue. After that we have visited the University's Library, near the Central Campus; it provides a very efficient service and is a very big and modern building. Below you can watch some photos of it.

Now we are trying to register at the courses of the University, it's request an online registration for take part in courses; the service is a little bit complicated, but we are trying to understand how to use it.

First impressions after the arrival

Here I am! Landed in Warsaw on Monday, immediatly fascinated by this beautiful city.

The offset between the old city, the tradition, the Communism after the WW2 until 1989, the ancient buildings and the residential blocks...and the new city, with a lot of skyscrapers, shopping centers, a very active financial life, interesting night life...a transformation of the capital in an American colony gives to Warsaw a touch of western way of life.

The weather is not so good, there is mostly cloudy, cold and there is very much wind! The humidity is very high. So I have to walk on the street like in italian's winter!

The public transport system is very efficient, with about 100 Zloty you can (if you are a student) utilize all the services of the city (metro, bus and tram) so is very easy to move from one area to another one.

The university is very cool! The campus is a true little city in the center of Warsaw. There are a lot of faculties all over the city. I will attend the Management one, so I visited it yesterday...is a very modern building and the ambient is confortable and very very cool and professional! There is also a copy for students of "The Wall Street Journal" every day! For complete the integration with the american's economy and way of life.

City with two faces...between modern and ancient

A first impression of the city, before the departure, surfing the net for pictures.

From the ancient part...
The old town (Stare Miasto)
The market square

...to the modern one
The financial center
The metro station
